President of Tanzania Samia Suluhu Hassan inaugurated Elsewedy Industrial Complex owned Elsewedy Electric East Africa LTD in Tanzania. An Egyptian delegation participated in the ceremony as well as in the event where the Tanzanian President laid the foundation stone of the Egyptian Industrial City (EIC) in the Kigamboni district of Dar es Salaam
The ceremony was attended by senior government officials from both Egypt and Tanzania. From the Egyptian side, the investment delegation was spearheaded by Dr. Assem El-Gazzar, Egypt’s Minister of Housing, Utilities and Urban Communities; Mohamed Jaber Abu El-Wafaa, Ambassador of Egypt to Tanzania; Mohamed Abdel Wahab, the CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI); Major General Mohamed Essam, Assistant Minister of Housing, who supervises the Minister's office; Major General Mahmoud Nassar, Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction and chairman of the committee following up on the progress of Julius Nyerere Hydropower project; Eng. Ahmed Elsewedy, CEO, Managing Director of Elsewedy Electric East Africa LTD; and representatives of Elsewedy-Arab 
Contractors Alliance executing Julius Nyerere Hydropower project, as well as 50 Egyptian businessmen and investors. From the Tanzanian Side, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation; Minister of Investment; Minister of Trade and Industry; Deputy Minister of Energy; and a large number of local district officials, parliament representatives and religious leaders attended the ceremony.
In her speech inaugurating the first phase of Elsewedy Industrial Complex, the President of Tanzania, Samia Hassan, extended her sincere greetings to and expressed her appreciation of President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, who always directs to enhance opportunities for cooperation between Egypt and Tanzania. She also welcomed Dr. Assem El-Gazzar, and the accompanying delegation, and thanked the representatives of the Egyptian companies, who were keen to visit Tanzania to explore the investment opportunities available there.

She added that she met with the companies that attended today during her recent visit to Egypt, where they promised to come to Tanzania to inject new investments in the Tanzanian economy. "Today they kept their promise with me, and I promise them to eliminate any obstacles they might face here in terms of facilitating procedures, granting licenses and making land available, and my door is open if you encounter any difficulties.", she said.

She indicated that the opening of the first phase of El-Sewedy Industrial Complex would pave the way for more Egyptian investments in Tanzania, especially with the decision to lay the cornerstone of Egyptian Industrial City. She stressed that the Tanzanian government is committed to strengthening cooperation in the business field with the Egyptian side. She also addressed that Egyptian businessmen should be assured of their investments in Tanzania, and "I guarantee them that", she said.

In his speech, Dr. Assem Al-Gazzar thanked the President of the United Republic of Tanzania for the warm reception. He said that H.E. President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi directed to follow up the progress of the projects that were discussed among the political leadership in the two countries, on top of which is the Julius Nyerere Dam project, and other projects that are being implemented in Tanzania. "A monthly report is submitted to President Sisi on the extent of business progress, and I myself follow up daily on the progress of the business implementation," he said.
During the celebration, Eng. Ahmed El-Sewedy said that the El-Sewedy Industrial Complex is located on a surface area of more than 120 thousand square meters, and includes several factories for cables, wires, transformers and meters, as well as PVC, as well as a logistics center built on a surface area of 4,800 square meters. The complex would produce necessary solutions and equipment for "Integrated Industrial Development Strategy 2025". 
The first phase would create more than 50,000 job opportunities for talented young people, engineers and technicians, which includes cable and wire factory.
The complex also includes a technical training academy to provide innovative technical education and vocational training programs with international standards, aiming to qualify the Tanzanian workforce to keep pace with global needs in the labor market, which is witnessing continuous development. In this regard, Eng. Ahmed El Sewedy stressed the company's keenness to advance its social responsibility by working on community development, transferring expertise, and training Tanzanian cadres.

He pointed out that El Sewedy Industrial Complex would be a new regional hub for the export of wires, cables, adapters, meters and electrical insulators, which will boost the cooperation between Egypt and 
Tanzania. Moreover, he explained that El Sewedy Electric began expanding in Africa more than twenty years ago, during which Tanzania was always Strongly presence, until it started its first major activities in 2018.

He added that the policies stimulating investment and the state's encouragement to investors were key factors in our decision to take Tanzania as a hub for El Sewedy Electric's operations in the South and East of Africa, especially since Tanzania is the crossing point for eight countries that share borders together, including six countries that consider Tanzania as its main sea port."

The Tanzanian president laid the foundation stone for the "Egyptian Industrial City (EIC)" project in Kigamboni area on the borders of Dar es Salaam, which has an area of 2.2 million square meters. EIC is an industrial area that is expected to accommodate labor-intensive industries, such as pharmaceuticals, auto motives, textiles and agro-industries.
Meanwhile, Engineer Ahmed El Sewedy said that "El Sewedy Industrial Development", which is a subsidiary of El Sewedy Electric, is developing EIC, aiming to attract investments worth more than $400 million from 4,100 investors across the region, which will create more than 50,000 job opportunities, and provide important support for the Tanzania's industrial development and for the industrialization strategy 2025.

He added that El Sewedy Electric has cooperated with the Tanzanian government for years. In 2018, El Sewedy Electric, allied with the Arab Contractors Company, and started a huge project to build a 2,115-megawatt Julius Nyerere dam and hydropower plant for the Tanzanian Electricity Supply Company (TANESCO). The average annual production of electricity from such project will be 6,300GWh (Gigawatts hours), which will help millions of Tanzanians to survive and thrive.​
