GAFI CEO: E-commerce Companies Boost Trade and Positively Affected the Egyptian Economy
The government considers the sector as a partner in providing goods using innovative methods, creating thousands of job opportunities, and expanding commodity distribution networks in the Egyptian market

Mr. Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), stated that e-commerce companies have contributed to the development of trade and have had a positive impact on the Egyptian economy. He emphasized that the government considers the sector as a partner in providing goods using innovative methods, creating thousands of job opportunities, and expanding commodity distribution networks in the Egyptian market. He also praised the sector's role in increasing reliance on the electronic payment system and achieving financial inclusion for customers and employees alike.

These statements came during Mr. Hossam Heiba's participation in Talabat's annual partners' celebration marking its fifth anniversary in the Egyptian market. The ceremony was attended by Dr. Ahmed Kouchouk, Minister of Finance; Dr. Sherif Farouk, Minister of Supply and Internal Trade; Mr. Mohamed Gebran, Minister of Manpower; Dr. Heba Saleh, President of the Information Technology Institute (ITI); Mr. Yasser Sobhi, Deputy Minister of Finance for Public Policies; and Ms. Hadeer Shalaby, Managing Director of Talabat Egypt.

Mr. Hossam Heiba affirmed GAFI's continued support for Talabat's expansion in Egypt, providing all the necessary facilities and incentives to sustain the company's growth. He noted that the company's objectives align with the Egyptian government's priorities of intensive labor recruitment, technology localization, logistical development, and environmental sustainability, as the company increasingly relies on bicycles and electric bikes. He also highlighted that this approach helps reduce the environmental impact associated with customers' travel to purchase goods in person.

GAFI CEO added that the Egyptian government considers such companies to be successful partners that are capable of providing goods and controlling prices in the Egyptian market at competitive prices that meet the diverse needs of consumers. Furthermore, the storage capabilities of these companies contribute to protecting the Egyptian market from sudden fluctuations in commodity prices and availability through modern technological systems.
