The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI) organized a workshop to prepare “GAFI’s First Sustainability Report” in cooperation with “De Carbon” company



which specializes in environmental consulting and combating climate change. The workshop was attended by Dr. Dahlia El-Hawary, GAFI CEO Deputy for Institutional Development, Research and Economic Performance; Mr. Magdy Al-Nabrawy, Head of GAFI’s Business Development Sector; and Dr. Ahmed Bilal, one of the founders of De Carbon and the company’s Director of Research and Innovation.
Mr. Hossam Heiba, GAFI CEO, signed a cooperation protocol with De Carbon Company for environmental consulting to provide technical support and enhance the sustainability aspects of GAFI, as well as preparing “GAFI’s First Sustainability Report”. Such report is concerned with highlighting GAFI’s efforts to integrate sustainability indicators into its strategy and activities, in addition to evaluating initiatives launched by GAFI, provided that the First Sustainability Report includes disclosure and evaluation of GAFI’s activities.
Dr. Dahlia El-Hawary said that the launch of GAFI's First Sustainability Report comes within the framework of GAFI's keenness to integrate efforts to attract foreign investments under the environmental, social and economic sustainability priorities. In addition to the continuous evaluation of government activities in accordance with international standards, to achieve the goals of the Sustainable Development Strategy (SDS): Egypt Vision 2030.
Mr. Magdy Al-Nabrawy said that the annual sustainability report would present GAFI's positive contribution to sustainable development achievement in accordance with international indicators and standards. Disclosure of such indicators will contribute to the continued institutional development of GAFI. He stressed that GAFI is open to embrace the proposals of the business community and experts in the field of development to achieve continuous improvement in GAFI’s performance in all fields.
Dr. Ahmed Bilal said that environmental sustainability would be integrated with GAFI work pillars: promotion of the attraction of foreign investments and the development of local investment; development of investment services and creation of a favorable business environment; management of free zones; development of investment zones; and institutional development of GAFI.
