Mr. Amr Nour El-Din, GAFI CEO Deputy for technical affairs and follow-up, inspected Mit Ghamr Investment Zone in Dakahlia Governorate in the presence of a delegation of "Ebdaa [Arabic word for Start] Initiative – the National Initiative for the Development of Egyptian Industry" – and Engineer Ahmed Kamal, Head of the Central Department of Investment Zones, to follow up on the work progress of factories operating within the Investment Zone and solve the challenges facing investors there in order to increase production and manufacturing rates.
The visit aimed to activate cooperation mechanisms between GAFI and "Ebdaa" initiative to support factories operating in the Investment Zone by identifying their production and manufacturing capacities, and providing all facilities that would expand the activities of such factories and solve any challenges they face in marketing their products. In addition, the visit targeted supporting those factories to find new export opportunities, especially for the African market, and benefiting from the network of trade agreements that Egypt signed with the African countries to enhance the access of Egyptian exports to them.
Both sides discussed GAFI's plan to offer the administrative building in the Investment Zone for service and administrative activities, as well as a showroom for the products of projects existing in the Investment Zone.
It is worth noting that "Ebdaa" is a national initiative that was announced in April 2022 and launched in October 2022. It aims at localizing modern industries, reducing the import gap, and providing 150,000 direct and indirect job opportunities within 4 years.
Mr. Amr Nour El-Din explained that the Mit Ghamr investment zone is the first investment zone specialized in metallurgical and engineering industries in Dakahlia Governorate, noting that working within the investment zones has many advantages, the most important of which is issuing all approvals and licenses from GAFI with easy procedures. The aforementioned contributes to supporting the efforts of State for integrated development, and providing more job opportunities for the population of the governorate through 107 industrial units that are included in the investment zone.
The visit included an inspection of more than 13 factories in the investment zone working in the fields of manufacturing of steel structures, central air conditioning, cooling and ventilation units, and equipment, packing and mixing of fertilizers and agricultural pesticides, plastic products, manufacturing and assembling of electrical equipment, indoor and outdoor lighting, laser forming, manufacturing and assembling of electrical and household appliances, manufacturing of wood and the adhesive of kitchen Counter panels, manufacturing and assembling of TV screens, manufacturing of detergents and disinfectants, production lines of ice and display fridges and coolers, manufacturing of plastic pipes, and manufacturing of reinforced fiber.
During the visit, project owners in the zone praised the work system under the investment zones framework, in terms of the ease of procedures and completion of approvals for companies' activity, and the provision of industrial units that are fully finished and provided with utilities, which contributed to the speedy start of production and manufacturing operations.
