-  3,366 Chinese Companies Investing in Egypt… Sustainability as a Key Pillar of Economic Development

In line with the directives of Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, to deepen Egypt-China investment and trade cooperation, Dr. Eman Mansour, Deputy CEO of GAFI, participated in the Investment Promotion Forum held as part of the 26th edition of the China International Fair for Investment and Trade (CIFIT) in Xiamen, China.
Dr. Mansour highlighted the latest developments in Chinese investments in Egypt, noting that the number of Chinese companies operating in Egypt has increased to 3,366, with activities spanning the textiles and ready-made garments, solar panels, chemical industries, automotive manufacturing, and logistics sectors. She also highlighted the experience of TEDA Egypt in the Suez Canal Economic Zone as a model for industrial cooperation, deepening local manufacturing, and export-oriented production.
Dr. Eman Mansour explained that sustainability represents a key pillar of Egypt’s economic development plans, with the Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) standards being firmly embedded, alongside efforts to promote the circular economy and reduce carbon emissions. She noted that Egypt is targeting an increase in the share of green public investments to 60% of total public investments during FY 2026/2027, in addition to investment opportunities in green hydrogen, renewable energy, electric vehicles, electronics, and advanced industries.
The Deputy CEO of GAFI called for expanding investment assessment criteria to include their impact on productivity, job creation, exports, and technology transfer, in addition to the volume of investment inflows, in a manner that maximizes the developmental impact of investments and enhances the competitiveness of Egypt’s productive base.
On the sidelines of her participation, Dr. Eman Mansour held meetings with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the World Economic Forum (WEF), and the International Trade Centre (ITC), as well as the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UNESCAP), to discuss cooperation in sustainable investment, enhancing private-sector competitiveness, and integrating the private sector into global value chains. She also held bilateral meetings with officials from investment promotion agencies in Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and China to exchange expertise and explore institutional cooperation.
