In the Presence of 30 British Companies: GAFI Hosts the Egyptian-British Business Forum for Investment in Infrastructure The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones hosted the Egyptian-British business forum to discuss injecting new British investments into the field of infrastructure, in the presence of Mr. Hossam Heiba, GAFI CEO, Mr. Walid Gamal El-Din, Chairman of the General Authority for the Suez Canal Economic Zone "SCZone", Mr. Ayman Soliman, CEO of the Sovereign Fund of Egypt "TSFE", Mr. Khaled Hamza, Country Director of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development "EBRD" in Egypt, Mr. Mohanad Khaled, Chairman of the Egyptian-British Chamber of Commerce, Mr. Charlie Garnett, Country Director - Egypt and Libya of the Department for Business and Trade at the British Embassy in Cairo, and representatives of 30 British companies and major Egyptian companies operating in the infrastructure sector. During the forum, direct bilateral sessions were designated between British and Egyptian companies and government officials from both countries to discuss opportunities for partnership and cooperation between the business communities in both countries and to enhance the volume of mutual investments. The forum focuses on attracting investments in eco-friendly infrastructure projects, such as water management and treatment, new and renewable energy, eco-friendly engineering industries, construction and building, and communications and information technology, Mr. Hossam Heiba said. GAFI CEO added that the forum will contribute to increasing the total inflows of the British investments into the Egyptian economy that exceeded two (2) billion dollars in the last FY 2022/2023, in addition to enhancing the compatibility between the goals of the British investments and the development priorities in Egypt. Mr. Walid Gamal El Din, Chairman of the General Authority of SC Zone, said that SC Zone's development plans depend primarily on eco-friendly infrastructure projects, with the aim of increasing the productivity and competitiveness of the industries in the Zone, pointing out to the Zone's success in attracting a large volume of investments to produce green hydrogen, green ammonia and methanol derivatives, calling on the British companies to pump new investments to develop green infrastructure and benefit from investment incentives in SC Zone, its distinguished location, and the trade agreements that Egypt signed with many countries. Mr. Ayman Soliman, CEO of TSFE, said that Egypt is the most important industrial power in the region, as it possesses human, industrial and energy resources, and is linked to global supply chains. Moreover, he indicated that there are huge opportunities for British companies to invest in logistics and data centers. Mr. Khaled Hamza, Country Director of EBRD's office in Egypt, said that the bank is interested in financing infrastructure projects in Egypt. During the year 2023, Egypt acquired 1.26 billion euros from the bank's financing and investments, ranking the first outside Europe and the fourth globally in terms of obtaining financing, which reflects the attractiveness of investment in Egypt. Mr. Charlie Garnett, Country Director – Egypt and Libya of the Department for Business and Trade at the British Embassy in Cairo, stressed Egypt's investment and commercial importance to Britain, as the volume of trade exchange between the two countries reached two (2) billion dollars, pointing to the of the British government for companies wishing to invest in Egypt. During his speech, Mr. Moustafa Moharram showcased M&P's new program, in partnership with General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), aimed at supporting new investors in overcoming any policy or regulatory challenges and fostering a favorable business environment for their presence/projects in Egypt.​
