On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, Mr. Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), participated in the “2025 Conference on Korea–Egypt Economic Partnership and Cooperation".

In his remarks, Mr. Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), emphasized that Egypt welcomes investors from around the globe, declaring that the current phase is guided by the motto “Egypt is Ready" to attract and host new investments. He underscored that this readiness is the result of years of sustained efforts to strengthen the business environment and establish a globally competitive investment climate.

Mr. Heiba highlighted the pivotal role of GAFI in advancing Egypt's economic development through a comprehensive package of procedural reforms and tailored investment incentives. These reforms, he noted, have driven a notable improvement in foreign direct investment (FDI) indicators, with inflows reaching an all-time high last year. Even excluding the impact of the Ras El Hekma transaction, net FDI for the year still exceeded the previous year by 20%, reflecting the growing confidence of international investors in the Egyptian economy.

He also showcased Egypt's unique competitive advantages that position it as a prime investment destination. These include an extensive network of trade agreements, a young and highly skilled workforce, world-class infrastructure, a strategically significant geographic location, and a competitive tax regime.

Addressing Egypt's Vision 2030, Mr. Heiba reaffirmed the government's commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and tackling current challenges to realize its ambitious development agenda. He explained that GAFI is prioritizing the attraction of investments in key sectors such as industry, agriculture, healthcare, green energy, and education, while offering sector-specific incentives to maximize competitiveness and appeal.

Mr. Heiba concluded by reaffirming the strength of economic ties between Egypt and South Korea, and discussed avenues for further strengthening the partnership in light of global challenges and emerging opportunities in both markets. He expressed his gratitude to the Embassy of South Korea in Cairo for hosting and organizing the conference, describing it as a valuable platform to deepen bilateral economic cooperation and elevate it to new heights.
