In line with the directives of Dr. Mohamed Farid Saleh, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, to strengthen Egypt’s economic and investment relations with countries around the world, Dr. Mohamed Awad, GAFI CEO, met with Mr. Nikoloz Abkhazava, Ambassador of Georgia to Egypt, in the presence of Mr. Mamuka Kurashbedini, Director of the Trade and Investment Department at the Georgian Embassy.
The meeting addressed ways to strengthen investment and trade cooperation between Egypt and Georgia and explored new opportunities for collaboration across a number of priority sectors, particularly logistics, manufacturing, technology, agribusiness, and tourism. The two sides also discussed the possibility of organizing joint events to bring together the business communities of both countries.
Dr. Mohamed Awad highlighted the importance of capitalizing on the strong bilateral relations between Egypt and Georgia, noting that the strategic geographical positions of both countries offer promising opportunities to enhance trade and investment flows. He explained that Georgia can serve as a gateway for Egyptian companies to the Eurasian and Black Sea markets, while Egypt represents a key gateway for Georgian companies to African markets.
GAFI CEO reaffirmed GAFI's commitment to providing Georgian companies seeking to invest and expand in Egypt with all necessary support and facilitation. He also highlighted the benefits available to investors through digital incorporation and the Golden License, while emphasizing GAFI’s continued efforts to address and overcome any challenges facing investors.
For his part, Ambassador Nikoloz Abkhazava proposed organizing a new Egyptian-Georgian Business Forum, building on the success of the first Egyptian-Georgian Business Forum, which was held in Cairo in March 2023. He emphasized the importance of such events in strengthening engagement between the business communities of the two countries, showcasing available investment opportunities, and creating new avenues for partnership and joint investment.
In terms of economic relations, Georgia ranked 86th in terms of FDI stock in Egypt as of June 30, 2025, compared with 83rd in June 2024.
