The General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), in cooperation with the Embassy of the Arab Republic of Egypt in The Hague, organized a roundtable discussion to explore Egyptian-Dutch cooperation in the field of waste management and recycling. The event took place on the sidelines of the World Hydrogen Summit hosted by the Netherlands.
The roundtable was attended by 30 Dutch companies and institutions interested in investing in recycling and sustainable environmental solutions in Egypt. Participants included Ambassador Emad Hanna, Egypt's Ambassador to the Netherlands; Mr. Ahmed Saad, CEO of the Suez Canal Economic Zone; Dr. Karim Shahin, National Projects Advisor to the Egyptian Prime Minister; and Ms. Amira El-Saeed, Officer in charge of Dutch Investments at GAFI.
Mr. Hossam Heiba, GAFI CEO, participated virtually and gave a comprehensive presentation on Egypt's investment climate. He highlighted the incentives and facilities offered to investors in general, and particularly those in the environmental and waste recycling sectors. He also shed light on the investment opportunities available in waste management and recycling, as featured on Egypt's Investment Map.
Mr. Heiba emphasized the Egyptian government's keen interest in waste recycling and its commitment to boosting investment in this vital sector due to its environmental and economic significance, as well as Egypt's promising potential in the field.
The roundtable sessions also included the participation of Mr. Michel Slotweg, Director of Invest International, a Dutch development finance institution focused on funding developmental initiatives. In his remarks, he expressed the institution's support for Dutch companies seeking to invest and operate in the waste management sector in Egypt. He noted that Invest International believes Dutch companies have the necessary expertise to make a significant positive impact on Egypt's renewable energy and recycling systems.
Mr. Thomas Marinelli, Head of Innovation and Sustainable Design at Signify—one of the leading Dutch companies investing in Egypt—also delivered a presentation. He showcased the advanced technologies and solutions offered by the company in the field of waste management and environmental sustainability, and confirmed the company's interest in injecting new investments into the Egyptian market within this sector.
