GAFI CEO Discusses DP World's Expansion Plans and Presents New Investment Opportunities in Egypt

GAFI CEO, Dr. Mohamed Awad:
-  We are committed to supporting global companies' expansion and strengthening Egypt's role as a regional hub for trade and logistics.

Following up on the meeting held earlier this month by Dr. Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade (MIFT Minister), with the leadership of DP World (the Group) in the presence of the heads of MIFT-affiliated bodies, the Chief Executive Officer of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI CEO), Dr. Mohamed Awad, held a meeting with a delegation from DP World to discuss the Group’s plans to expand in the Egyptian market in the period ahead, alongside a review of a number of investment opportunities that align with its strategic direction and international expertise in ports, logistics, and supply and distribution chains.
During the meeting, GAFI CEO was briefed on DP World’s strategy and future plans to strengthen its operations and investments in Egypt, as well as the areas it is targeting for expansion, in light of the Egyptian market's competitive assets, distinguished geographic location, and advanced infrastructure linking various regional and international markets.
The meeting also covered a number of promising investment opportunities aligned with the Group’s expansion goals, particularly those tied to logistics activities; storage and distribution centers; integrated services and supply chains, alongside a discussion of the appropriate investment frameworks for carrying out the targeted projects.
Dr. Awad affirmed that GAFI is committed to maintaining direct, ongoing communication with global companies operating in Egypt, staying abreast of their future investment plans, and working to provide all the institutional support needed to facilitate their investment expansions, in coordination with the relevant bodies.
He noted that Egypt’s goal is to attract more high-quality, value-added investments that help raise the efficiency of the transportation and logistics network, strengthen the competitiveness of the Egyptian exports, increase added value, and create jobs, thereby reinforcing Egypt's standing as an integrated regional hub for trade, investment, and logistics.
GAFI CEO explained that the investment opportunities discussed during the meeting were selected with an eye to the Group’s expertise and expansion goals, affirming GAFI's readiness to provide a unified institutional point of contact to follow up on the opportunities of interest to the Group and facilitate communication with the relevant jurisdictional and specialized bodies — supporting the swift review of investment opportunities and the steps needed to carry projects forward.
On their part, DP World's representatives gave a presentation on the Group's business growth in the Egyptian market, affirming that Egypt represents one of the Group's most important strategic markets in the Middle East and North Africa region, given its strategic location on international trade routes and the promising opportunities it offers in ports, integrated logistics services, and supply chains.

DP World has an extensive investment presence in the Egyptian market, operating the Sokhna Port on the Red Sea, one of the main gateways for the Egyptian trade, which helps connect the domestic market to regional and international trade networks and supply chains.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides affirmed their commitment to continuing cooperation and coordination in the period ahead to complete the review of the proposed investment opportunities, discuss mechanisms for their implementation, and support the Group’s expansion plans in the Egyptian market — reinforcing the State's efforts to attract further high-quality investment.
