GAFI Explores Opportunities for Relocating Chinese Apparel Production Chains to Egypt
Mr. Hossam Heiba, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), met with representatives of several companies operating in the textile and related industries in the People's Republic of China to explore investment opportunities in Egypt. The discussions focused on leveraging China's experience in establishing integrated, value-added supply chains in the textile and ready-made garment (RMG) sector, which are characterized by high efficiency and low cost — a move that would enhance the competitiveness of Egypt's globally respected textile industry.

The Chinese delegation included companies specializing in textile and RMG manufacturing, technological services and industrial system development, industrial facility construction, and supply chain, marketing, and sales operations.

Mr. Heiba affirmed that the Egyptian government is exerting maximum effort to meet the growing Chinese demand for investment in Egypt, particularly in the textile and RMG sector — one of the strategic sectors the government is keen to expand due to its substantial employment potential. He praised China's leadership in capturing the largest share of global investment and exports in this vital sector, both domestically and through its outward investments in Southeast Asia and beyond.

He further explained that the targeted locations for attracting Chinese textile and garment investments in Egypt include the Suez Canal Economic Zone, Minya, Fayoum, and Sadat City. The government is currently accelerating the development and infrastructure readiness of these areas to meet the manufacturing needs of the Chinese business community in this field.

GAFI CEO also presented Egypt's diverse investment frameworks tailored to suit various investor strategies, including public and private free zones, investment zones, and industrial zones. He elaborated on the tax and non-tax incentives available to investors, in addition to the trade agreements that provide Egyptian products with access to three billion consumers worldwide, free from customs or trade restrictions.

The Chinese delegation included representatives from Nanjing Litong Textile Technology, Qingdao Jinchuan Garments, Guangzhou Yixing Textiles, Xiamen Zhuocheng Smart Manufacturing & Trade, and Wuhan Yifi Trading.
